As a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre, CID has been recognized by PADI as offering the highest Instructor level education; we are the only Dive Centre in the Canaries with this rating.

All levels of professional training are undertaken by our experienced staff, all at PADI Master Instructor level. Training is overseen by our experienced Platinum Course Director (The highest level in the PADI system and the only resident Platinum Course Director in the Canaries) so you can assured of the highest quality teaching.

PADI Divemaster Course (DM)

The PADI Divemaster course is your first level of professional training. Working closely with an experienced PADI Instructor, you’ll fine-tune your dive skills, and refine your rescue skills so you anticipate and easily solve common problems. You’ll gain dive knowledge, management and supervision abilities so you become a role model to divers everywhere.

As a PADI Divemaster, you’ll lead others as you supervise scuba diving activities and assist with diver training. If you want to work at a faraway exotic dive destination, the adventure of a lifetime awaits you. PADI Divemasters are respected dive professionals who are aligned with the largest and most respected dive organization in the world – PADI.

CIDs Divemaster course is a little different not only do we run a comprehensive course but we go that little extra mile, we show you what’s it’s like to work in a busy PADI dive centre plus as most of our Divemaster go on to do their IDC we add that little bit extra, we train our Divemasters so that the transition to the IDC is easy, we train them to IDC level theory and skills.

  • PADI Advanced Open Water and PADI Rescue Diver Certifications (or qualifying certifications).
  • 18 years old.
  • Medical certificate to show fit to dive, signed by a medical doctor within the last 12 months.
  • 40 Logged Dives (60 required for certification).
  • Completed EFR Primary and Secondary Care training (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months.
  • Duration of the course: Minimum 2/3 Weeks if you complete the on-line course work and theory, contact us for further details. The more time you can spend with us on your course the more you can out of it! There is also the option of doing your Divemaster course as a 2 month internship again contact us for further details.

During the PADI Divemaster program, you will learn diving leadership techniques through both classroom study and independent learning.

You will develop your water skills, including both diving and surface exercises, as well as partaking in exercises to increase your organisational ability and problem solving techniques. You will put all knowledge into practice through a structured integration programme which includes a series of hands-on training exercises.

As you progress through your Divemaster course, you will expand your knowledge of diving, perfect your diving techniques and increase your confidence. Then, as a PADI Divemaster, you will use these attributes to guide, offer advice and motivate other divers and be able to share the sensations of enjoyment from exploring the aquatic world.

Once certified as PADI Divemaster, and in Active Status, you can find employment in some of the world’s best dive locations and you will be authorised to :

  • Supervise both training and non-training activities by planning, organizing and conducting dives.
  • Assist a PADI Instructor during confined and open water training.
  • Conduct the PADI Skin Diver course and the PADI Discover Snorkelling program.
  • Conduct the PADI Discover Local Diving experience.
  • Conduct the ReActivate program for certified divers.
  • If you are qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader, conduct the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program independently.
  • Guide Open Water Diver course students on the tour portions of Open Water Dives 2, 3 and 4 at a ratio of 2:1, under the instructor´s indirect supervision.
  • Conduct the skin diving skills segment of the Open Water Diver course during confined water dive 2, 3, 4, or 5.
  • Accompany Open Water Diver students under the instructor’s indirect supervision during surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and during navigational exercises; as well as supervise remaining students when the instructor conducts a skill.
  • Accompany certified PADI Scuba Divers on subsequent dives.
  • Accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or in specialty training dives under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor.
  • Conduct subsequent dives under an instructor’s indirect supervision for Discover Scuba Diving participants at a 2:1 ratio, after participants have satisfactorily completed the first dive with an instructor.
  • Teach Emergency First Response courses after completing the Emergency First Response Instructor Course.
  • After completing the corresponding instructor training, conduct the Digital Underwater Photographer specialty course under the direction of a PADI Instructor, and the following specialty courses without dives: Emergency Oxygen Provider, Equipment Specialist, Coral Reef Conversation, Project AWARE Specialist and any PADI Distinctive Specialty Diver courses that don´t include dives.

PADI Assistant Instructor Course

The AI course is a sub-course of the IDC but can be done as a stand-alone course and can be done at any time (not only in conjunction with an IDC) it takes 4/5 days. Once completed you are on the first rung of the Instructor ladder, ready to go on and complete the IDC at a later stage.


  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent).
  • 18 years old.
  • 60 logged dives; Documented experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.
  • Certified diver for at least six months.
  • Medical certification attesting to dive fitness, signed by a medical doctor within the last 12 months.
  • Completion of the Emergency First Response course Primary Care and Secondary Care (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months.
  • If not PADI Divemaster, complete the PADI Divemaster Course dive rescue assessment and submit documentation of qualifying certifications.

You will learn the history and educational philosophy behind PADI system of education, more about the courses an AI can teach and an introduction to teaching PADI style.

Assistant Instructors in Teaching Status (certificates / updated since 1995) are authorized to:

  1. Present the development of the knowledge development of any PADI diver course under the indirect supervision of the instructor. The instructor personally assess student knowledge development.
  2. Introduce initial skills training under the direct supervision of the instructor during dives in confined waters.
  3. Conduct open water surface skills evaluations during Open Water Diver Diver course dives under the instructor’s indirect supervision.
  4. Teach and certify Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Divers under the direction of an instructor.
  5. Independently teach the Project AWARE (nondiving) Specialty course.
  6. Independently teach the Coral Reef Conservation (nondiving) Specialty course.
  7. Independently conduct Discover Scuba Diving in a pool or confined water.
  8. Independently conduct Bubblemaker programs.
  9. Independently conduct PADI Seal Team AquaMissions.
  10. Teach and certify divers in specialty courses that don´t include dives, after successfully completing the Specialty Instructor Training courses earning Specialty Instructor ratings for such specialties.
  11. After completing the corresponding instructor training and earning Specialty Instructor ratings, conduct Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor.

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI)

The OWSI program introduces you in to the complete system of PADI Diver Training and focuses on further developing your skills as a professional dive educator.


  • PADI Assistant Instructor, or leadership level with another diver training organization.
  • 18 years old.
  • 60 logged dives; Documented experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.
  • If not a PADI Divemaster, successfully complete the PADI Divemaster Course dive rescue assessment.
  • Certified diver for at least six months.
  • Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a medical doctor within the previous 12 months
  • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care Course (or qualifying equivalent training) within the last 24 months.

The OWSI takes up where the AI left off and teaches you about the full range of courses a PADI Instructor can offer plus gives you further experience in teaching the PADI way. To successfully become a PADI Instructor you will need to successfully complete the PADI Instructor exam. See IDC for further details.

After becoming an Open Water Scuba Instructor, you will be able to teach the full range of PADI courses from PADI Open Water Diver to Divemaster.

PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course

Instructors qualify as PADI IDC Staff Instructor by attending a PADI IDC Staff Instructor course led by a PADI Course Director.

There are two ways to complete the course, the recommended way is do the course alongside one of our IDCs, this way you get hands on experience. The other way is the practical application method which although can be done in a shorter time doesn’t give you that extra experience. Contact us for further details.

  • Emergency First Response Instructor.

Teaching Status, updated IDC Staff Instructors are authorized to:

  1. Independently teach and certify PADI Assistant Instructors (at PADI Five Star Dive Centres or PADI Five Star Dive Resorts).
  2. Conduct IDC training segments while the Course Director is available on premises for consultation.
  3. Evaluate and critique instructor candidate knowledge development, confined water and open water teaching presentations.
  4. Provide counselling and remedial training for instructor candidates and IDC Staff Instructor candidates.
  5. Assist with training during instructor-level continuing education programs.
